Fiery crash leaves one woman dead and police searching for two others who ran away from the scene, San Antonio police say

Two people from the flipped vehicle were taken to the hospital and one of them has died, according to officials.

SAN ANTONIO — Police are searching for two people after a fiery crash on the northeast side Friday morning leaving one woman dead, according to officials.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on the 281 exit ramp going towards 410 west area Friday. The exit ramp was closed for an investigation but reopened a few hours after the accident.

Police say the crash was caused after a Hyundai Santa Cruz was rear-ended by the driver going erratically in a Ford Bronco. This caused the Santa Cruz to flip over and the Ford Bronco to catch on fire. Dramatic video shows the Ford Bronco fully engulfed in the flames.

Two people from the Santa Cruz were taken to the hospital and one woman has died, according to officials. The woman has been identified as 76-year-old, Eden Nuval, according to the Medical Examiner.

Dr. Eden Nuval was a retired anesthesiology specialist from California. She worked at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank.

In a statement, Providence St. Joseph Hospital wrote:

"The Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center family is deeply saddened to learn of Dr. Nuval's passing. Our hearts are with her loved ones and we offer them solace in knowing she was part of an extraordinary team truly committed to caring for our community."

Nuval is survived by her nieces, nephews and her siblings.

Her nephew, Anthony Nuval, told KENS 5 his aunt was on his way to the San Antonio Airport to catch a flight back home when she was killed in the crash.

"You would definitely see her friendliness, her generosity," he said. "She's very, you know, she loved going to different places. She was actually on vacation in San Antonio.”

Nuval explained his other aunt, Eden Nuval's younger sister, was in the car with her. She is expected to be okay.

Two people got out of the second car involved in the crash and ran away. Police are still searching for them.

Police say if anyone has information to give them a call.
