SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Customs and Border Protection drone went down in a field along S. Gas Plant Road in south San Angelo Sunday afternoon.
A Texas DPS trooper told us the aircraft, which appears to be an MQ-9 Predator B unmanned drone, crashed at about 3 p.m. and that there were no injuries.
The Predator B was first used by CBP in 2005. According to CBP.gov, "The MQ-9 Predator B provides Air and Marine Operations with long range persistent surveillance capability and gives AMO the ability to provide high-quality streaming video to first responders, and to assess critical infrastructure before and after events; making it an ideal aircraft to aid in emergency preparations and disaster recovery operations."
CBP is at the scene investigating. We will have more info as it becomes available.
