DALLAS — A Dallas police officer was shot and killed – and two other officers were injured – Thursday night in a shooting in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive.
A chase that ensued after the shooting ended in Lewisville when officers shot and killed the suspect -- later identified by multiple sources to WFAA as Corey Cobb-Bey -- after he got out of his vehicle with a "long gun," DPD said in a news release.

The two injured officers were in critical condition and stable condition, respectively.
In a post to X on Friday morning, Dallas PD Chief Eddie Garcia said simply: "No words."
"Our department is hurting," DPD Communications director Kristin Lowman said in an early morning press conference on Friday. "We ask tonight and this morning for the thoughts and prayers for our city, for not only those recovering in the hospital, but for our fallen, for their family and for their loved ones."
Darron Burks was identified to WFAA via sources as the officer who was killed. The identities of the other officers have not yet been released.
As mourners and fellow police department employees placed flowers on a squad car parked on the sidewalk in front of the DPD South Central Station, The Assist the Officer Foundation was preparing its tributes to the fallen and injured officers too.
“As of yesterday,” said Ed Lujan while looking at the memorial wall of names and faces at the offices of the Dallas Police Association. “It’s 93 now,” he said of the number of DPD officers killed in the line of duty.
"Just to know we have to add another name and another picture to the board, it hurts,” said Lujan the chairman of the Assist the Officer Foundation which helps officers and their families with financial assistance and counseling.
"He's a hero. He's definitely a hero,” he said of Officer Darron Burks. “And he's going to be missed.”
