Dallas hit-and-run driver killed in second crash nearby, police say

Two other people were left in critical condition, police say.

DALLAS — A driver accused of fleeing the scene of a crash in Dallas late Thursday night was killed in a second crash nearby, and another person was injured, police said.

The second crash happened around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Mentor Avenue and Frio Drive, near Ann Arbor Avenue and South Lancaster Road in the South Oak Cliff area of Dallas.

Police said the driver of a truck was heading east on Mentor Avenue, crossing Frio, when he crashed into another vehicle.

Police initially said two people in the other vehicle were critically injured. A statement from police later Friday morning said one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police at the scene said they learned the suspect was fleeing an initial hit-and-run crash nearby, before causing the crash at Mentor and Frio. The location of the initial crash was unknown but was in the nearby vicinity, police said.

The suspect died at the scene of the second crash. His name has not been released.

More information about how the crashes happened was not immediately available early Friday.
