BROWN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety says speed and driver impairment from the use of alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in a deadly rollover crash Saturday morning in Brown County.

A 35-year-old Temple man was killed in the crash that happened at about 8:14 am. Saturday on Farm-to-Market Road 2632, about four miles north of Brownwood.

DPS says Jerrod Lynn Pannell, 35, of Temple, was driving north of FM 2632 and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. He drove his pickup truck off the right side of the road and tried to steer back onto the roadway, making the truck go into a side skid.

While the truck was skidding, it hit a road sign, causing the truck to roll. Pannell wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was ejected while the truck was rolling.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Justice of the Peace Teodoro Perez.
