TOM GREEN COUNTY, Texas — Dispatchers at law enforcement agencies most often calls for service on emergencies, but every once in a while, a call comes in to 'report' an act of kindness by an officer.
The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office posted a story on its Facebook page Monday morning on a call about a deputy's act of kindness.
Here's the post:
"Sometimes we get to see and experience the absolute great side of life!
On Friday, July 19th, Deputy Allen responded to a motorist assist in the county. Upon arrival, he met with a man who had graciously stopped to help a female and a family member with blown tire. He had issues changing the tire with what was on hand and called our dispatch. Deputy Allen arrived and the 2 worked together over the next 20 minutes to get the old stubborn tire off and to get the spare safely on. And they did this in the wonderful West Texas afternoon heat of 100 degrees with zero complaints. Once the job was completed, the female and her family member went on their way...and so did this helpful citizen and our Deputy, with nothing else said or discussed.
Then, apparently the man decided he was impressed enough with Deputy Allen to call dispatch and let them know how he went above and beyond to assist (even though the citizen was already doing a wonderful thing by stopping and helping another person in need). He did not ask to be identified or called back, he just wanted someone to know that Deputy Allen did a great job. Dispatch let the Patrol Lieutenant know of this and even though we do these things every single day, it is rare it is brought to our attention in the manner of a positive phone call. He found the video from the call and grabbed a couple of screenshots.
So thank you to our good citizens and our Deputies for being who you are! We know this type of positive interaction happens all the time, but hey, this one got an extra highlight because of the complimentary phone call and we appreciate the heck out of it!!!"
