Austin driver arrested after crashing into Early storefront

The man initially told Early Police Department officers he was run off the road.

EARLY, Texas — An Austin man was arrested Friday morning after driving into an Early storefront.

The Early Police Department and Early Fire Department responded to the crash at around 4:45 a.m. Friday in the 900 block of Early Boulevard. They found gas leaking and electrical line boxes on the building knocked down.

The driver initially claimed he was run off the road. Police reviewed the footage from the intersection camera and saw him driving at a high rate of speed from Hwy. 183S. The pickup truck crossed the intersection on the left side of the road into oncoming lanes, crossed Early Boulevard, then went into the building. The driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving.
