Driver, teen passenger killed in Runnels County rollover crash

DPS says the driver and his 15-year-old passenger did not have seatbelts on and were ejected from the SUV when it rolled over.

RUNNELS COUNTY, Texas — The driver of an SUV and his 15-year-old passenger were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday in Runnels County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at around 2:26 p.m. Saturday on Farm-to-Market Road 3115, about 15 miles north of Miles.

Ernest Joe Rose III, 27, of Bronte, was driving a Ford SUV south on FM 3115. He drove off to the right side of road, took evasive action and steered back toward the roadway to the left. Steering back made the SUV go into a side skid then overturn.

DPS said Rose and his 15-year-old male passenger from Miles did not have seatbelts on and were both ejected from the SUV.

Rose and the teenager were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace David Sellers.
