BROWNWOOD, Texas — An Early man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection to the shooting death of a Zephyr man.
The Brownwood Police Department said that around 2:48 p.m. Wednesday, Brownwood Communications got an emergency call from a person reporting they had just witnessed a shooting in the area of 5th Street and Avenue E.
Emergency responders went to the area and found a victim with a single gunshot wound. Officers secured the scene and witnesses gave information about the suspect and said he left the scene in a pickup truck.
At approximately 2:56 p.m., Early Police Department Officer Taylor Fletcher saw a pickup truck matching the description given by witnesses traveling on US Hwy 183. He initiated a traffic stop that turned into a short chase.
The suspect, identified as Joseph Dean Williamson, 25, of Early, eventually pulled over and was arrested.
The victim, 32-year-old Taylor David Hart, was taken by ambulance to the Hendrick-Brownwood Medical Center Emergency Room where lifesaving measures continued.
The Brownwood PD said Hart was pronounced dead by the attending physician at around 3:44 p.m.
Williamson was taken to the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center where he met with Brownwood PD detectives. He was then booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of evading in a vehicle (Early PD) and murder.
The department said this incident "remains an active, complex, investigation" and no further information is available at this time.
