IRION COUNTY, Texas — The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a fatal plane crash that happened Saturday evening near Mertzon.
Three people (the pilot and two passengers) were killed in the crash, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The plane, a Piper PA 28, reportedly was first seen at 6:20 p.m. Saturday near Ozona and last seen at 6:34 p.m. Saturday near San Angelo, FlightAware shows. It was destroyed, the FAA reported.
Flight records show the plane left Las Cruzes, New Mexico, at 10 a.m. Mountain Time and landed in Fort Stockton at 1:58 p.m. Central Time Saturday. It then left Fort Stockton at 2:32 p.m. Saturday and flew to Reagan County, possibly landing at 3:39 p.m., according to FlightAware. It does not show the departure time from Reagan County.
Records show the plane's primary registered owner is Alyse Marie Sanchez of San Antonio. Jeremy Alan Sanchez is listed as another owner of the plane. Alyse Sanchez does not have a pilot certification on record with the FAA, Jeremy Sanchez is a licensed private pilot. It is not know if either Alyse or Jeremy Sanchez were on the plane at the time of the crash.
According to the FAA, the Piper PA 28 was manufactured in August 1964.
