ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Fire Department crews were able to quickly put an attic fire out in a home on Green Street Wednesday afternoon.
According to an AFD press release, the department responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Green Street. The first units found light smoke coming from the attic vents. Crews entered the home and found a small fire in the attic space, which was quickly extinguished.
The occupants had arrived home to the smell of smoke and called 9-1-1 and evacuated the house. There were no injuries to the residents or fire department personnel, the release said.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family because of the lack of electricity and cold weather conditions.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical arcing in the attic. Damages are estimated at $5,000.
