House fire in Abilene causes $20K in damages, family dog dies

Two dogs were in the home during the fire - one was rescued, one did not make it out.

ABILENE, Texas — A fire at a home on Abilene's Fannin Street caused an estimated $20,000 in damages.

According to a press release from the Abilene Fire Department, at approximately 4:08 p.m. Monday, the department responded to a residential structure fire in the 300 block of Fannin Street.

The first in crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the windows of a single-family home. Two dogs were inside the house at the time of the fire; one small dog was found dead, the other was rescued by the owner with the help of neighbors.

No one was home when the fire was discovered. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation and the AFD said damage is estimated at $20,000.

The Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents of the home.
