Five-hour standoff in Abilene leads to arrest

ABILENE, Texas —

The Abilene Police Department was called out in the late afternoon hours of Tuesday, Sept. 24, to the 5300 block of Taos Drive in southeast Abilene for a call of a disturbance in progress.

According to an APD press release, a female called and reported a male was in an altercation with her and took some of her property. She was in fear of him. After police arrived, the female and another male came out of the house and into protective police custody. The suspect remained in the home and would not exit.

Police SWAT, Street Crimes, patrol and negotiators arrived and attempted to get the suspect to surrender peacefully.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Alexander Louis Acosta.

He was eventually found hiding in the attic of the home and had warrants for driving while intoxicated and a class B possession of marijuana charge out of Taylor County and was wanted out of Austin on an assault family violence warrant.\

He was taken into custody around 10 p.m. without further incident.
