SAN ANGELO, Texas — Free Rein Coffee Company celebrated National Get Up Day by making several stops in San Angelo to hand out small bags of its coffee beans for free.
U.S. Figure Skating created National Get Up Day in 2016 as a motivational campaign inspired by the perseverance of skaters. Free Rein’s slogan is “Get Up and Get After It.” Free Rein’s Steve and Cindy Hall gave bags of coffee beans to faculty and staff at Fort Concho Elementary, members of the United First Sergeant’s Association, first responders with San Angelo’s Police and Fire Departments and staff at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital.
“Our goal for today is to visit some different places we feel are important to the 'get up' spirit," Free Rein’s general manager Steve Hall said.
Some recipients – like U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Paul Doepker – aren’t heavy coffee drinkers. The airman said he doesn’t drink it at all.
“I got (the bag of coffee beans) for my wife. She loves coffee. Drinks it every morning,” he said.
Shannon Rehabilitation Center controller Bill Perkins begins his shift at 4 a.m. Coffee, he said, is an essential part of his workday. Perkins said he’d likely finish his bag in two days.
“Free coffee is always better than when we have to pay for it,” he said.
This week, the shop’s RV will be parked at the San Angelo Stock Show. Free Rein will also have a van at Austin’s livestock show.
Animals will begin to arrive in San Angelo on Friday.
