SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (2:59 p.m. Oct. 26): The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office said in a release it served a search and arrest warrant at the home on Freeland Avenue, following an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that happened Oct. 1.

The release said at approximately 5:05 a.m. Oct. 1, deputies responded to a "shots fired" call in the 4000 block of Herbert Road in Tom Green County.

Deputies arrived after the suspect had left the scene. Subsequent investigation showed Edgar Eduardo Gamez-Rodriguez was attending a party and got into a disagreement with another attendee. Gamez produced a handgun and chambered a round into the weapon in front of the victim.

He then pointed the firearm at two people before leaving the scene in a vehicle. As Gamez left the scene, he fired the weapon several times, but didn't hit anyone.

Evidence of the crime was recovered during Thursday morning's search, but Gamez was not at the home. Tom Green County Sheriff's Office investigators tracked him down at a Reagan County ranch and arrested him at approximately 2:20 p.m.

Gamez will remain in the Reagan County Jail until he sees a judge, then transferred to the Tom Green County Detention Center.

He was arrested in 2021 at the Del Rio International Bridge crossing into Texas. His status is currently listed as a "non-deportable alien", the release said.

The investigation remains active and more charges are likely.

In the release, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office thanked the San Angelo Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security, the San Angelo Fire Department tactical medic program and the Reagan County Sheriff's Officer for their help in the investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: No details were available from officials Thursday morning about the heavy law enforcement activity seen in the 2300 block of Freeland Avenue.

Multiple Tom Green County Sheriff's Office vehicles, including the Special Response Team's armored vehicle, surrounded a home on that block. Deputies, SRT and other officers entered and exited the home throughout the morning and a vehicle was driven out of the driveway and loaded onto a tow truck bed shortly after 10 a.m.

Deputies at the scene referred all questions to the TGCSO's Public Information Lt. Christina Lopez.

Lopez said there was no information available for release Thursday morning. More information will be posted when it becomes available from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
