West Texas business works through cellphone outage Thursday

San Angelo's Sugar High Bake Shop owners posted on social media letting customers know it was still accepting orders.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Tens of thousands of cellphone users across the United States woke up to widespread outages Thursday as providers worked to find the cause of the issue.

In San Angelo, the owners of Sugar High Bake Shop addressed the outages in two separate social media posts. The first let customers know the shop was open for business. The second encouraged them to place orders through Facebook or Instagram messages if they were still experiencing cellphone issues.

Owner and baker Sabrina Acosta said the outages significantly disrupted her daily routine.

"It's thrown me off quite a bit, because I'm typically always working from my phone," Acosta said. "So as I'm running errands, I'm also replying to customers, making custom orders, things like that. I've been kind of lost. That sounds so sad, but it's been difficult to work without it."

Several providers reported outages Thursday morning. AT&T said it had restored service to three-quarters of affected customers at 10:15 a.m. CDT. In another statement at 2:10 p.m., the company said its service was completely restored.

The San Angelo Police Department also addressed Thursday morning's outages. SAPD sent an alert on Nixle encouraging people experiencing service issues to attempt to text 9-1-1 or use a landline during an emergency. In a later update, the department acknowledged that the issue was almost fixed.

"It was certainly an inconvenience, but something we worked through," San Angelo Police Chief Frank Carter said.

Cellphone providers have not released a statement confirming the cause of the outages.
