#MakeADifferenceMonday: Rainbow Room Hope for the Holidays tree

Hope. It's a wonderful thing. But on occasion the holidays can make some feel hopeless. Enter some Christmas angels; and yes, you can be one of them.

SAN ANGELO, TX — Christmas is only a few weeks away and the excitement is building for many West Texas oys and girls. But for some children, that Christmas cheer can be difficult to find.

"It can be a very tough time for children especially under CPS supervision. Some of the families that we work with might not have the means to provide for the children during this holiday and we definitely don't want children to feel left out we want them to feel just as special as the other children,” Liliana Mata, Coordinator of the Rainbow Room said.

You can help change that just by picking up one of the cards on the tree.

"You can look at the different cards and it tells what their wish-list is and the people who can come in can look at those cards and shop for that child,” Amanda Razani, Rainbow Room board member said.

This tree located in the Bealls store in Sunset Mall is a beacon of hope and carries even more symbolism on its branches.

"We chose the different color ornaments because it represents the rainbow room so we tried to make it really bright and colorful,” Razani said.

The Rainbow Room helps kids who have just been placed under CPS care. Oftentimes children are taken from their homes during desperate situations and can't bring anything with them or, they're too young to fend for themselves.

The movement to help provide a merry Christmas to kids in cps care was started by a cps investigator in midland. Now it's made its way to the Concho Valley to help all children and even their families.

Read the cards and you'll find that sometimes the simplest gifts can make someone feel special.

"And it's not just about the gifts they'll be receiving, it's like the title of the name says, we just want them to keep hope for the holidays,” Mata said.

After choosing a card and shopping for the recipient, there's just one more thing to do.

"Take that gift unwrapped to Beall's customer service and from there we'll come by and collect those and get them to the children,” Razani said.

If we want the world to change, we have to be the ones who change it...so how are you making a difference?
