EASTLAND, Texas — A 71-year-old man was arrested last week by the Texas Rangers and Eastland Police for improper relationship between educator and student.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said William James Culverhouse, 71, of Eastland, was arrested Friday, Feb. 1 and booked into the Eastland County Jail.

The arrest comes after Texas Rangers were contacted by the Eastland Police Department in December 2023 to help with an investigation involving a female student at Eastland High School. The case was presented to the 91st District Court grand jury, who handed down a true bill indictment.

DPS directed any further requests/questions to the Eastland County District Attorney’s Office.

We've reached out to Eastland Independent School District Superintendent Jeremy Williams for comment.

Williams said, "The District has cooperated with law enforcement at all stages of their investigation and will continue to do so. The District cannot offer more details or comment further, pursuant to federal law protecting student privacy, state law, and board policy. Our commitment to the safety and education of our students remains unwavering."
