SAN ANGELO, Texas — A San Angelo man pleaded guilty to manslaughter Wednesday for the 2022 shooting death of Andy Hinojos.

Mason Elijah Ovalle Fulton, 22, agreed to a plea bargain sentence of eight years after waiving a jury trial.

On Feb. 21, 2022, San Angelo Police Department Officer Sgt. John Schultz was dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of Magdalen Street in response to a shooting victim, where he learned a man was shot in the back and being taken to Shannon Medical Center by private vehicle.

Fulton was detained and the handgun used in the shooting was recovered. Fulton told police he shot Hinojas accidentally and did not believe the gun was loaded.
