On Wednesday, we placed a basket on a sidewalk with the label, "A message of hope." We wanted to see what messages residents had to share with our neighbors in Midland and Odessa.
Karen Barrera said she is originally from Kermit and was spending the weekend with her family in Odessa.
The shooting, for her, hit a little too close to home.
“Dear everyone from back home it absolutely broke my heart when I went to visit from the weekend, and I could even go outside. You are all in my prayers and I can’t imagine what you are all going through. ASU is praying for you and we love you. Please stay strong Odessa. God bless,” Barrera wrote.
“My thoughts and prayers with everyone in Midland and Odessa. I am praying for you every day and I am sending all my love,” Rebka Guerrero said.
“I pray to keep hope alive and may god be will you all,” Olivia Casarez said.
“I wrote my favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:13, because, I find my strength in Christ, for all things are possible. During my time here in West Texas there has been so has been so much love in the community and I just know that there are people to help and give love everywhere,” Chloe Patton said.
“God helps those who help themselves, so fight through the tough times,” Damon Hewing said.
