Monday classes at Alta Loma Elementary canceled after vehicle collision downs electrical pole

Alta Loma Elementary students can pick up “grab-and-go” lunches or eat in the cafeteria between 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Fannin Elementary.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (6:20 p.m. Sunday):

An AEP rep told us power has been restored to all customers as of approximately 4 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Classes on Monday at Alta Loma Elementary School have been canceled after a vehicle collision downed an electric pole directly in front of the school. 

See the full message from an SAISD press release below: 

"Elementary students will not report to campus tomorrow, Monday, May 13, 2024.

"Alta Loma Elementary students can pick up “grab-and-go” lunches or eat in the cafeteria between 11:00 am-12:30 pm at Fannin Elementary at 1702 Wilson St. Students will need to be present to receive a meal. Parents and students will not need to pre-order meals through SchoolCafe.

"The SAISD maintenance department is working diligently alongside the AEP in an attempt to repair the transformer and bring electricity back to the campus, but currently there is no electricity at the campus. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We appreciate AEP and our maintenance department for working to resolve this issue and the understanding and cooperation of our Alta Loma Elementary students, families and staff."

San Angelo PD did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the crash or any injuries that may have resulted from it. We will have more information as it becomes available.
