ABILENE, Texas — An Abilene motorcyclist has died from injuries he received in a Nov. 24 crash.
According to the Abilene Police Department, on Nov. 24, traffic and patrol division officers responded to a major motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Grape and West Stamford streets.
The APD said initial reports to dispatch said a motorcycle collided with a vehicle and the motorcycle driver had severe injuries.
Officers arrived and found a motorcycle being ridden by Saul Rodriguez, 60, of Abilene and a Honda Civic driven by Alejandro Valerio, 19, of Abilene, had collided.
The initial investigation shows Rodriguez was traveling south on Grape Street. Valerio was traveling east on West Stamford Street, approaching the stop intersection at Grape Street.
Witnesses told the APD they saw Valerio fail to yield right-of-way leaving the stop sign, causing the collision with Rodriguez. Rodriguez suffered severe injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center. He was later transported to John Peter Smith in Fort Worth for more treatment.
Valerio was treated and released from the scene.
On Dec. 22, 2021, Rodriguez died as a direct result of the severe injuries he suffered from the collision. Rodriguez was not wearing a helmet.
The APD said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
