WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — President Biden has nominated an Assistant U.S. Attorney from North Texas who could become the first Black U.S. Attorney in Southeast Texas.
Damien Diggs, who currently works for the U.S. Department of Justice's Northern District of Texas, was nominated by Biden on Wednesday according to a news release from the White House.
If confirmed, Diggs could become the first Black U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
Diggs has worked in North Texas since 2018 and previously was at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia from 2012 to 2018 the release said.
He served as a staff attorney from 2007 to 2012 in the Office of Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education and worked as an associate at Hogan & Harston LLP from 2005 to 2007 the release said.
Diggs also served as a law clerk in 2004 for the senior judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and in 2003 for Judge Rhonda Reid Winston of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
He received his law degree from the American University Washington College of Law in 2003 and his B.S. from Towson University in 1998.
Biden also on Wednesday nominated Shannon Saylor to become the U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Virginia the release said.
Saylor has been working in the job as the acting U.S. Marshall since 2021.
