CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety says an Ohio man died May 31 when he drove into the path of a Cross Plains man at the State Hwy 36 and US Hwy 283 intersection in Callahan County.

A DPS report says Wylie Howard Parker III, 21, of Troy, Ohio, was traveling north in a passenger car on US Hwy 283. A pickup truck, driven by James William Apple, 82, of Cross Plains, was traveling east on State Hwy 36.

Parker didn't stop at the stop sign in the intersection and drove into Apple's path. Apple's truck collided with Parker's car on the car's left side.

Apple was airlifted to Hendrick Medical Center where DPS said he was in critical condition with incapacitating injuries.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Tom Rumfield.
