DPS searching for hit-and-run driver in pedestrian fatality

A Big Spring man was walking on US Hwy 67 towards Big Lake after his car ran out of gas. Someone hit him from behind, the left the scene.

REAGAN COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in Reagan County.

DPS says Junior Jones, 37, of Big Spring was walking east on the US Hwy 67 shoulder towards Big Lake after his car ran out of gasoline. 

An unknown vehicle, traveling eastbound in the right lane near mile post 752 on US 67, hit Jones from behind. The driver left the scene, failing to stop and render aid.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Patty Davenport.

DPS said this is an ongoing investigation and asks anyone with information to contact Sgt. Justin Baker at justin.baker@dps.texas.gov or 325-223-6821.
