TRENT, Texas — A 76-year-old man operating a motorized mobility device died Monday evening when he entered traffic in front of a pickup truck in Trent.
In a preliminary crash report, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Larry Dean Morris, 76, of Trent, was traveling east operating the motorized mobility device on the shoulder of the westbound traffic lane on Northwest 1st Street in Trent. The pickup truck, driven by a 17-year-old, was traveling west on Northwest 1st Street.
As Morris reached the intersection of Northwest 1st and Oak streets, he entered the westbound traffic lane directly in front of the pickup truck.
DPS said the intersection is unlit and the motorized mobility device was not equipped with reflectors or lights.
Morris was taken by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center North, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash.
