SAN ANGELO, Texas — Chief Travis Griffith took to the podium Thursday, Sept. 26, looking to set the record straight.
Back in late April, agents with the Department of Homeland Security apprehended a man attempting to cross the into Mexico with two firearms , one of which was allegedly purchased at a gun show and traced back to the San Angelo Police Department.
An internal investigation began in late May under former Chief Frank Carter. As the investigation progressed, the focus began to settle on one division of the police department. One individual has since resigned, and others have been placed on administrative leave.
As the internal investigation continues, the Texas Rangers are heading the investigation on the criminal side.
