Rep. Drew Darby speaks to FOX West Texas after election victory

The 18-year state representative of District 72 defeated Stormy Bradley on Tuesday night.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — It was a long Tuesday night at the Darby headquarters in San Angelo, but when the dust settled, Drew Darby beat his opponent Stormy Bradley to retain his seat as House District 72's State Representative.

The win means he will serve District 72 through 2027, and at the least, will have served the region for 21 years. Despite having an established tenure, Darby feels he has plenty of work to do, but has the energy to complete the task.

"Our work is not done, we still have a lot of work to do, work is yet to be done but at least we know and they know I will have a voice in Austin," Darby said.

Darby's opponent, Stormy Bradley, received ample endorsements from some of the biggest names in the republican party. Despite this, Darby feels he overcame the odds but adds this victory is more about the people than himself.

"Certainly this was a very sweet victory, but this victory is for a lot of folks. We won this together and that is what is so neat about this election is that it took all of us," Darby said.

Now, Darby says he has begun preparation that involves getting teachers raises and defending the issues of his district.

"This term does not end until 2025 and then we will pick up from there, but we have started to look at what needs to be done (now) to manage issues that affect the people in House District 72," Darby said.

The results once the ballots were counted, showed Darby had an advantage of 56% to 44% over his opponent, Stormy Bradley.
