Ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park restrooms

After years of petitions, fundraising and help from the community, the park now has necessary amenities for guests.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The City of San Angelo, the San Angelo National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the San Angelo Area Foundation are hosting a ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of the new public restrooms at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 2121 Martin Luther King Blvd.

The event is planned for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the park pavilion.

The City of San Angelo said the park’s public restrooms are a testament to the commitment of the community towards enhancing visitors’ experiences.

This project was funded through the community through the efforts of the local NAACP and the San Angelo Area Foundation. The City says it will cover maintenance costs.

The restrooms were designed by KFW Architects with construction provided by McCrea Construction.

"We are thrilled to invite the public to join us in celebrating the completion of this significant project," Carl White, parks and recreation director, said. "The new public restrooms at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park stand as a symbol of our community's commitment to providing essential amenities and enhancing the overall park experience for all visitors."

COSA, NAACP, San Angelo Area Foundation and other community representatives will be at the event.
