SAN ANGELO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Patrol’s Air and Marine Operations found a 26-year-old man lost in a rural area in Tom Green County for four days. Kevin Minzenmayer was reported missing Jan. 30 and found safe Feb. 3.
“I am proud of our AMO personnel for their dedication and perseverance in bringing this potentially life-threatening situation to a successful conclusion,” Director of Air and Marine Operations Felix Ledee said in a CBP press release. “In remote areas, often CBP Air and Marine Operations personnel and aircraft are vital to locating people in distress.”
At 10 a.m. Feb. 3, San Angelo AMO received a request to assist local law enforcement in locating a subject who had been missing for four days. AMO launched a PC-12 crew to search a rural area near Twin Buttes Reservoir, where Minzenmayer’s vehicle was last spotted. After nearly four hours, the aircraft returned to base to refuel and a second flight was launched.
Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Game Wardens provided additional information, leading AMO to spot the subject and guide ground units to his location.
In a release from the TGCSO, Minzenmayer's truck was found near the Twin Buttes spillway. A thermal image observed from the aircraft was identified as possibly being Minzenmayer. Law enforcement officers on the ground were directed to the area of the image and found him at approximately 9:15 p.m.
Minzenmayer was transferred to local EMS and taken by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center for treatment.
