SAN ANGELO, Texas — Horror, comedy, romance and more will hit center stage Sept. 30-Oct. 1 as part of the San Angelo Revolution Film Festival.
The third year of the festival will include 52 original films at Brooks & Bates Theatre and Murphey Performance Hall and tickets are on sale now.
On Friday, films will be shown from 11:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, films are scheduled from 12:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
"We're really excited about this year," Suzanna Valenzuela, Director of Strategic Partnerships and Events at the Destination Marketing Organization, said. "We're trying to do something a little special by screening 'Urban Cowboy.'"
The Texas-centric cult classic is a 1980s western love story starring John Travolta and Debra Winger along with Jessie Mapes.
According to Valenzuela, Mapes will actually be in attendance at the festival, along with other actors and directors from various films.
"It ['Urban Cowboy'] was based on the real life of, actually the actress who's gonna be here, Jessie Mapes, and she played herself in the movie, so it's really an oldie but a goodie."
Valenzuela hopes fans of the films will get the chance to ask questions and take photos with those involved in the creative process.
Some other films include EmmaGeddon, Lax Bros and You are Not Alone on Friday and Disregard the Vampire, Between the Trees and Texas AF on Saturday.
The films were submitted from all across the country and they were chosen by the same person who is in charge of the Austin Revolution Film Festival.
Valenzuela wants West Texas to grow as a place to celebrate film and creativity.
"We want more people to recognize San Angelo as a place to make movies," she said.
"A lot of the filmmakers will be here so they get to experience the community firsthand and see if this is a place they might be interested in making a movie."
Tickets are being sold at $25 for two days, $15 for one day and $5 for college students and military.
