SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Rodeo is one of the five nominees for large indoor rodeo of the year by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. The announcement comes as rodeo staff prepares for the roping fiesta happening next weekend.
The PRCA is one of the largest rodeo organizations in the world. Each year, cardholding members of the PRCA vote in different categories for the top in each individual group.
“It’s a huge honor to be nominated in that Top Five category. I'm just so happy for this community and the support that they bring to the grounds and those 13 performances is outstanding,” San Angelo Rodeo manager, Josh Hilton, said.
Hilton himself is nominated as the Musical Director of the Year.
Among the nominees for large indoor rodeo are Arlington; San Antonio; Nampa, Idaho; and Rapid City, S.D. These nominees added a certain amount of money or over during their indoor rodeos.
“We're really excited about this year's Cinch Roping Fiesta and hopefully everyone can come out and join us on this great historical event. This is a highlight of tie down ropers, the best in the world have been here and it’s a prestigious event that they can put on their win list,” Hilton said.
The 68th annual Cinch Roping Fiesta will start Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Spur Arena with the open ladies breakaway. Friday will be the preliminary roping, and the top 10 winners from open ladies breakaway will also be competing.
On Saturday, Oct. 30, there will be events including “Rope Yourself a Painting” by EnPleinAirTEXAS, Roping Fiesta vendor expo and invitational calf roping & match roping. Immediately after match roping will be special performances by Josh Ward and Triston Marez.
On Sunday, Oct. 31, the fiesta will start with a cowboy church service, followed by Roping Fiesta vendor expo and world class steer roping and double mugging.
