SAN ANGELO, Texas — Angelo State University's Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in computer science degree program has been officially recognized and validated by the National Security Agency as an NSA program of study.
The validation means the ASU curriculum meets the standards set by the NSA and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for cybersecurity education. It is also the first step toward Angelo State potentially being designated by the NSA as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD).
The NSA validation specifically approves ASU's computer science curriculum:
- Aligns with the standards outlined by the NSA and DoD, focusing on critical knowledge units derived from the National Institute of Standards and Technology framework.
- Covers a broad spectrum of cybersecurity topics, ensuring that ASU students receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for the challenges of tomorrow.
- Meets the highest standards in cybersecurity education, setting ASU apart from other institutions and programs.
Angelo State's B.S. in computer science degree program is directed by Department of Computer Science chair Dr. Erdogan Dogdu.
"This validation as a NSA Program of Study reaffirms the quality and relevance of our computer science curriculum," Dogdu said. "Students who choose our program can be assured that they are receiving an education that is recognized and respected by industry leaders and government agencies. It is also a testament to the dedication and expertise of our faculty and the quality of education we offer at Angelo State. We are proud of this achievement and look forward to continuing to provide excellence in cybersecurity education."
Now its official, the university will apply later this summer for the NSA's CAE-CD designation.
The ASU Department of Computer Science also offers a new B.S. in cybersecurity degree. Once the first students graduate through that program, it will also be eligible for validation as a NSA program of study.
