SAN ANGELO, Texas — Sporting events, a dance contest, a bonfire and more have all been happening at Angelo State this week.
The university is celebrating past and present students with its annual homecoming festivities, and on Oct. 21, the campus welcomed visitors to witness the annual parade.
Many attendees sat in lawn chairs on the university sidewalks as cars, trucks, and floats drove by, passing out candy and waving to the crowd.
"My daughter's in the parade, she's in the law enforcement club and so they have a float," San Angelo resident Maggie Speed said.
Speed hasn't attended a homecoming parade in many years and she felt a sense of fulfillment watching her daughter be part of the event.
"It makes me really proud that she's involved in the student clubs and the student life and not just doing the academic piece, but also being involved in the community," she said.
ASU president Ronnie Hawkins, the baseball team, Angellettes dance team, Ram Band, cheer team and more were all involved in the parade, which was organized by the Homecoming Committee.
Political science instructor and baseball representative Manny Campos introduced each of the floats to the crowd because "The committee asked if I would emcee the parade, I'm always willing to help out organizations on campus so I gladly volunteered," he said.
Following the parade, homecoming weekend is set to continue with a volleyball game, Ram Jam and finally, a football game against the UT Permian Basin Falcons.
"I think our Rams are on fire," Campos said. "Homecoming's one of our oldest traditions, we love it. It's great to see our current students and some of our alum. It's a great vibe right now and I'm just so excited."
