SAN ANGELO, Texas — Update: The City of San Angelo has reached a tentative agreement with the San Angelo Police Officer’s Coalition. The agreement allows for savings from unfilled positions with the department to be used for pay increases. The coalition president, Noel Anderson, said the agreement is currently being voted on by officers. If approved, it will go to the City Council for ratification Tuesday. The president also says, while the new pay wouldn’t be comparable to other cities, it’s the best move for the officers.
Anderson also says, if passed, the police department would also recruit officers and get them on the job faster with less strain on the taxpayer.
Original story: A tentative agreement was reached Monday between the San Angelo Police Officer’s Coalition (SAPOC) and City of San Angelo officials.
Under the agreement, police officers will receive pay raises funded within existing budget allocations. The City accepted the SAPOC’s cost neutral plan to use savings from unfilled positions within the San Angelo Police Department. This will help position the SAPD to recruit new officers and retain existing officers.
The agreement will go to SAPD officers for approval, then to San Angelo City Council for final ratification. All changes will be effective Oct. 1, 2024, and remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2025.
