San Angelo Elks to host chili cookoff

Proceeds from the CASI sanctioned cookoff will benefit a summer camp for special needs children.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Elks Lodge 1880 is hosting a chili cookoff that can get you points to qualify for the International Championship Chili Cook Off in Terlingua.

The local lodge is partnering with the local chili pod for the annual Elks Chili Cookoff at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at 2121 S. Chadbourne St. All proceeds will help fund the summer camp for special needs children in Ottine, which is sponsored by the Texas Elks State Association.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. June 15 at the Elks Lodge. Cost is $25 for chili and $5 for beans. Beans will be judged at noon and may be cooked off-site. Chili must be cooked on-site and must be made from chili grind meat. It will be judged at 2 p.m.

The lodge will be holding a raffle immediately following the awards ceremony. The Elks are requesting cakes, pies and new items to be donated for a live auction.

Hamburgers will be available for the chili teams and lodge members for $5 each, starting at 11 a.m.
