SAN ANGELO, Texas — Four students from Central and Lake View high schools reached the highest level a high school musician can achieve through the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) by earning the distinguished honor of TMEA All-State in band, orchestra and choir.

The San Angelo Independent School District said the following students received the honor:

  • Arick Brooks, CHS senior, All-State Mixed Choir, tenor;
  • Heidi Bundick, LVHS senior, All-State Band, double bass;
  • Isaac Carrales-Rodriguez, LVHS junior, All-State Mariachi, trumpet;
  • Mia Wilcox, CHS senior, All-State Band, flute.

“To become a member of the elite TMEA All-State band, choir, or mariachi program is something to be celebrated and applauded. The amount of talent, time, and effort given to this accomplishment says much about the musician and their dedication to perfect their craft” SAISD Director of Fine Arts and Advanced Academics Tiffany Huebner said. “SAISD is super proud of our All-State musicians and teachers who have supported them through this journey.”

To be selected for the All-State honor, the SAISD students joined more than 70,000 high school musicians from across the state to audition before a panel of judges in 33 TMEA regions. Students who ranked the highest then advanced to compete against student musicians from other TMEA regions at the TMEA area level, with the highest-ranking then qualifying for All-State status.

Bundick has been named a member of the All-State Band for three consecutive years, while Wilcox has been honored as a member of All-State Band the last two consecutive years. This is the first year for Brooks and Carrales-Rodriguez.

The four will perform with their respective All-State ensembles Feb. 10, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. Nationally-recognized conductors will direct the ensembles who rehearse for three days and conclude with the concert performances.

The students are led by CHS Band Director Jason Jones, Mike Barry, Stephanie Ellis-Dearborn, Robert Kosko, and Caleb Lenard, CHS Director of Choirs Landon Gilmore and Sunday Vaught, LVHS Mariachi Directors Rosendo Ramos and Ezra Ramirez, LVHS Band Director Franklin Piland and LVHS Orchestra Director Stephanie Infante.
