SAN ANGELO, Texas — It's not very often that an entire family decides to attend the same college or university, but that's not the case for the Edinburgh sisters.
Chloe, Avery, Whitney and Hailey are all San Angelo natives who - at one time or another - made the decision to continue their higher education at Angelo State University.
The two older sisters, Chloe and Avery, graduated from ASU in spring 2023 with degrees in physical therapy and special education respectively.
Whitney and Hailey are currently first-year students studying nursing and special education on campus.
The Edinburghs grew up in San Angelo but, like many others, it wasn't until they were teenagers that they began considering where to attend college.
"But the closer we got to actually applying to colleges and stuff and looking into what that entails, Avery and I were like, really set on ASU only," Chloe said of the decision-making process.
She and Avery toured the campus and residence halls and participated in university events like Discover ASU and True Blue Friday. From there, the decision was clear.
"Once we did that, we're like, 'Yep! ASU's where we wanna be,'" Avery said.
Chloe and Avery were both involved in the honors program during their time at ASU and even now, they still keep in contact with many of their former classmates.
As for younger siblings Hailey and Whitney, they were inspired by their sisters' time on campus and wanted to follow a similar direction.
"For Hailey and I, we were pretty set on ASU from the experiences that our older sisters had," Whitney said.
Hailey is studying special education just like Avery, noting she can always ask her sister for help if needed. She has been able to make new friends from different places, another favorite part of her university experience.
Whitney is similar in that she enjoys meeting new people while also having a newfound sense of independence. And, of course, testing out the rock climbing wall at the university climbing gym.
"Certain experiences that I haven't had and then I came here and now I've had them, it's just so much fun," Whitney said.
Currently, Avery is teaching special education at a nearby school while working towards a master's degree in special education, while Chloe is working towards a physical therapy doctorate. Looking ahead, Hailey wants to work in special education and Whitney hopes to complete her bachelor's in nursing, potentially followed by a master's degree.
Though their futures might all be different, the Edinburgh sisters will always be connected by a common thread: being a Ram.
