SAN ANGELO, Texas — As the holiday season approaches and the weather begins to cool down, comfort foods like turkey, mashed potatoes and green beans might sound like the perfect meal.

For the past 33 years, H-E-B locations across Texas have been hosting the annual Feast of Sharing event, offering free food, live music and more for communities statewide.

From 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Nov. 5, the gathering is set to take place for its 27th annual year at First Financial Pavilion in San Angelo, 4400 Grape Creek Rd.

"This is one way that we can give back to each one of our communities, to our loyal customers to come out and enjoy some fun, fellowship, a hot meal and just be together to celebrate the holiday season," H-E-B West Texas public affairs overseer Jessicka Gonzales said.

According to Gonzales, the first Feast of Sharing was held in 1989 as organized by a member of the Butt family, who founded the grocery store chain.

Now in 2023, the program serves approximately 350,000 meals to more than 34 Texas communities with the goal to "just have a really memorable experience for the holiday season," Gonzales said.

H-E-B also partners with varying community organizations, including Meals for the Elderly in San Angelo, to provide additional meals for those who might not be able to leave their residence.

The chain is also working with Concho Valley Transit to offer free rides to the pavilion, where Gonzales expects to see 6,500 attendees.

"It really takes a village to pull this off. Between our partners that work in our San Angelo stores, our Hunger Relief team that brings their mobile kitchen units and the many amazing organizations around the San Angelo community [that] all come together and make this happen and put this on," Gonzales said.

"So this is something that's very special to the community because everybody's involved. It's not just an H-E-B experience but it's something we're really proud to be able to partner with our local communities."
