SAN ANGELO, Texas — Howard College held a ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony for its new electrical and plumbing training facility Wednesday.
The "Lowe’s Foundation and Home Builders Association of San Angelo Workshop" was funded by a $400,000 grant from the Lowe’s Foundation and supported by members of the San Angelo Home Builders Association and is set to address the skilled labor shortage by preparing individuals for high-demand careers in the trades.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in workforce development for the region.
“Today marks a new chapter for our community,” HCSA Provost, Pam Callan, said. “This facility stands as a testament to what we can achieve through partnerships and shared commitment. Thanks to the Lowe’s Foundation and our local partners, we provide unparalleled opportunities for individuals to thrive in high-demand industries.”
Key speakers included representatives from Howard College, the Lowe’s Foundation and community leaders who highlighted the facility’s potential to transform career paths and bolster the local workforce.
Lauren Norman, Lowe’s Foundation manager, emphasized the importance of investing in the trades.
“This facility represents not only an investment in education but also a long-term commitment to the future of skilled trades,” she said.
The event also recognized the first cohort of Plumbing Trades students and their instructor. Guests toured the new facility, which features interactive workspaces designed to replicate real-world conditions, providing hands-on experience for students.
The Lowe’s Foundation and Home Builders Association of San Angelo Workshop is expected to become a cornerstone for workforce development in the region, empowering individuals and strengthening the economic fabric of the San Angelo community, Howard College said.
