SAN ANGELO, Texas — Angelo State University will present a guest artist performance by the Lone Star State Trumpet Guild (LSSTG) at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at First Presbyterian Church, 32 N. Irving St.

"Music for Trumpets Across the Centuries," will also feature the ASU Trumpet Ensemble and is free and open to the public.

The lineup for the concert will range from the works of 16th-century Venetian composer Giovanni Gabrieli to modern works from this century, including new compositions by LSSTG member Bernie Scherr. Engaging works for trumpet ensemble will be featured throughout the concert, along with two arrangements from the world of pop and jazz - showcasing the versatility and range of LSSTG musicians.

The Lone Star State Trumpet Guild began as an idea to include trumpeters in West Central Texas. Chartered in 2016, it held its inaugural Trumpet Fest at Angelo State later that year. The LSSTG is one of the most active chapters of the International Trumpet Guild, featuring numerous high-level performances, presentations of new works for trumpets and dedication to mentoring the next generation of trumpet players.

LSSTG members come from a large area of West Central Texas including Abilene, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and eastern New Mexico. The performers are the top players in the area's symphony orchestras, commercial/show groups, Broadway musicals and brass chamber music and hold faculty positions at numerous universities.
