SAN ANGELO, Texas — A 48-year-old man wanted on a felony warrant in Upton County was arrested by Tom Green County Sheriff's Office deputies after he ran away during a traffic stop.
Shortly after noon Thursday, the patrol deputy saw a vehicle driving northbound on Martin Luther King Drive without a registration sticker. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near Barton Street and West 29th Street.
During the stop, the passenger, identified as Corey Dan Underhill, 48, got out of the vehicle and ran away.
Deputies set a perimeter and found Underhill trying to hide in a nearby house on West 30th Street. He was arrested with the help of the San Angelo Police Department.
Underhill had an active felony warrant out of Upton County for (got off bond) evading arrest with vehicle and had a previous conviction for evading arrest on foot.
The deputies found clothing Underhill had discarded while running from them in a shed near a home. Near the clothes, they found approximately 4.56 grams of methamphetamine that Underhill later told them was his - that he tried to hide.
Underhill was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for evading arrest detention with previous conviction, a state jail felony; possession of controlled substance Penalty Group 1 >=4 grams <200 grams, a second-degree felony; and the Upton County warrant - GOB*evading arrest with vehicle.
His bond was set at $50,000.
