SAN ANGELO, Texas — On Jan. 8, the City of San Angelo will begin a construction project on North Chadbourne Street.

Crews will resurface the road in both directions from 7th Street to 43rd Street. The City shared details of the plan for each phase of construction Friday.

Prep work starts Monday, Jan. 8, where crews will adjust manholes and utility valves.

Most construction will pause during the San Angelo Stock Show in February and again during the San Angelo Rodeo in April. The City hopes crews will have the road resurfacing finished before the rodeo. Construction is scheduled to be completed in October.

Traffic will be allowed to pass through at least one lane during road work.

Patrick Frerich, the City's director of operations, said this stretch of Chadbourne Street was identified as a top candidate for construction in 2015.

“We’re very excited about this,” Frerich said. “This project has been a long one in the making, and we’re very well aware of that. I know a lot of people have their eye on Chadbourne Street and are excited to get this thing started and get it done. In the end it’s going to be a substantial and great project.”

Frerich said the City eventually plans to improve Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to 7th Street in what he called "Phase B" of construction, which he said he hopes could begin within the next 12-18 months.

"[We’ve] got a lot of projects in the works and a lot of them going at the same time, but they’re absolutely necessary,” he said. “We’ve got to make some progress and some improvement around here.
