SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (5:53 p.m. Nov. 3): The City of San Angelo released an announcement Friday evening that the boil water notice in the southwest part of the City has been lifted.

Following a boil water notice, the City recommends flushing pipes and faucets for at least five minutes before use.

For automatic ice makers, it is recommended to empty three batches of ice and clean the machine. Five batches are recommended for makers 20 feet or longer.

For any application that uses a water filter, run water long enough to replace one full volume and replace any filters that are almost empty.

Water softeners should be put through a cycle of regeneration while pre-filters should be emptied and replaced for reverse osmosis units.

Finally, any additional water and/or carbon filters should be replaced, especially those almost used up.

UPDATE (Noon Nov. 3): The City of San Angelo said Friday that certain areas in southwest San Angelo are still under a boil water notice that was issued Thursday because of a water main break near The Bluffs.

A utility company working in the area hit the line and caused the break.

The notice is expected to be lifted sometime Friday night or Saturday.

Updates will be posted on the COSA website, social media, Optimum channel 17 and here.

Areas under the boil notice include the following streets and general areas:

  • Rio Concho West Retirement Community
  • Appaloosa Trail
  • Appaloosa Circle
  • North Otter Creek Run
  • Pinto Path Street
  • Stage Coach Trail
  • Indian Path
  • Pueblo Pass

A boil water notice normally lasts 24 to 48 hours because of the time needed to repair the leak, flush the lines and collect and test water samples. The water samples require a minimum of 18 hours for completion. This process can take up to two days.

ORIGINAL STORY (Nov. 2): A water main break impacted parts of San Angelo Nov. 2, including The Bluffs, Southland, College Hills and areas near Lake Nasworthy.

As a result of this incident, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality informed the City of San Angelo to issue a boil water notice for specific areas as follows: Rio Concho West Retirement Community, Appaloosa Trail, Appaloosa Circle, North Otter Creek Run, Pinto Path Street, Stage Coach Trail, Indian Path and Pueblo Pass.

The notice states those in the affected areas should only use water for hand washing, teeth brushing, drinking, etc. after it has been heated to a roiling boil.

The water should then be boiled for an additional two minutes and cooled before consumption and/or use.

It is especially important for children, the elderly and individuals with weak immune systems to adhere to these instructions.

The boil water notice will remain in effect until a statement is released from the public water system; a specific time estimation has not been provided as of yet.
