San Angelo Rodeo nominated for 2023 PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year

It's the third-straight year for the rodeo to receive the honor.

LAS VEGAS — The Professional Cowboy Rodeo Association announced its nominees for 2023 "best of" awards and the San Angelo Rodeo is up for the "Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year" award.

San Angelo is up against Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Rapid City, South Dakota, for the honor.

"It's a stiff competition with markets like Houston and San Antone and Fort Worth... rodeos where their payout is over a million dollars," Rodeo Manager Josh Hilton said. "Actually in Houston's case, it's over two million dollars, so it's unbelievable and just goes to show what we've got here in San Angelo and how special it is."

SASSRA Rodeo Manager Josh Hilton received a nomination for "Music Director of the Year". In September, Hilton was named music director for the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

"It's year-round for the staff here, our board of directors, our volunteers — it's always on people's mind, and we have the best volunteers in the world," Hilton said. "Our committee is amazing. They take pride, they take ownership, and it goes to show, you know, when you have people that aren't paid, and they come out and they do the jobs that other rodeos pay people to do, it's pretty inspiring to us."

The PRCA said each year it expresses its gratitude for rodeo personnel at the annual PRCA Awards Banquet before the National Finals Rodeo. A final online ballot process will be open Oct. 25-29 for applicable voting PRCA members.

Winners in each category will be announced at the PRCA Awards Banquet Dec. 6.
