CHRISTOVAL, Texas — Since 2022, supporters of Texas state representative August Pfluger have been coming together for food, live music and a chance to show their dedication for the congressman.
Pfluger Pfest, hosted at Coopers Bar-B-Q in Christoval, was created not only to show support for Pfluger but as a way to bring West Texas together.
"It's a great opportunity to bring the community together, to have a celebration of patriotism. We have Veterans Day coming up so it's a good chance to tell the community 'Thank you,' especially those that served, first responders, people that volunteer in the community," Pfluger said.
Despite the gloomy weather, attendees lined up at the gate, receiving August Pfluger hats, t-shirts and koozies upon entry.
"We prayed for rain, we've prayed for rain for a long time and it came today," Pfluger said.
The event included a live performance from country music singer-songwriter Aaron Watson, a Texas native himself.
Following the show, Pfluger came to the stage, where he announced his decision to re-run for his role of congressman in Washington, D.C. where he represents Texas' 11th district.
"In just two days I'm gonna go re-file to run again," he said to the crowd as he stood on stage. "2024 is gonna be a great year."
Claps and cheers could be heard from the crowd following Pfluger's declaration.
He wants to note the importance of serving the district, which includes areas like San Angelo, Brownwood, Llano, Midland and Killeen to name a few.
"We're thankful to have so many wonderful supporters, people to come together. You know, it's not just about me, this is really about our community and for 240 plus years, families and communities have been the ones that are raising leaders, raising citizens, raising people to do amazing things and there is no better community than here in the Concho Valley," he said.
The congressman hopes to make Pfluger Fest an annual tradition for both himself and the community to enjoy.
