SAN ANGELO, Texas — Handcrafted ornaments, pillows, jewelry and more might make the perfect gift ahead of the holiday season.
For those looking to make a personalized purchase, the San Angelo Senior Services Center is hosting its annual Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 9 with plenty of items available for sale.
"A lot of the stuff comes from the Senior Center right here," COSA Recreation Supervisor Samantha Kniesler said. "So the ladies make the pillows and they've made jewelry and the art group has made ornaments, decorated them and they have their paintings out for sale."
Members of the Senior Center sit at tables covered in holiday cloths in a room filled with products and price tags at Sante Fe Crossing, 619 S. Chadbourne St. Some outside vendors participate, as well, but Kniesler said all items are homemade, the majority of which are from seniors directly.
Not only does the sale help increase revenue, it also helps the members feel fulfilled in their personal lives.
"It keeps them busy with the seniors coming, they need purpose so they come and it gives them focus, it gives them something to do and fellowship with others," Kniesler said.
Members of the art group, for example, were unfamiliar with each other before joining the center. Now, they remain close friends and welcome others to take part.
"It's just a fun way that the ladies can show all of their creativity, the things that they've been working on, especially here at the center," Kniesler said.
Holiday paintings on sale depict a smiling Santa Claus, red and green poinsettias and reindeer wearing collars with "NOEL" on the neckband, to name a few.
The event itself has been happening "for many years" thus far and it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.
