SAN ANGELO, Texas — Howard College San Angelo announced the launch of its new tradesman plumber training program, set to begin in August.

The program is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled plumbing professionals and provide students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel in the plumbing industry.

Consisting of a series of five comprehensive courses taken over two semesters, the curriculum was developed to cover all essential aspects of plumbing, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for real-world challenges as they begin their careers.

Courses will be taught by a local master plumber.

With successful completion of the program, students will be fully qualified to take the tradesman plumber-limited certification exam. The certification is a key credential which can significantly enhance career opportunities and professional development in the plumbing field. Without this series of courses, it would take 4,000 working hours or approximately two years to qualify to take the certification exam.

Classes begin Aug. 19 and run from 5:30-9:50 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program is Pell Grant and student loan eligible for students who qualify and limited scholarships may be available.

Program launch was made possible with the support of the $400,000 Lowe's Foundation Gable Grant Howard College San Angelo received in 2023. The grant has been instrumental in building the new Electrical and Plumbing Training Facility with support of Home Builders of San Angelo members, who donated time, expertise and funds to the project.

Enrollment for the tradesman plumber program is now open. Prospective students are encouraged to apply early because of limited space.
