SAN ANGELO, Texas — Whether you're waking up for an early morning at work or craving some extra afternoon energy, a new mobile coffee truck is here to help.

Meet Travelin' Tom's Coffee, San Angelo's newest on-the-go stop for all things caffeine and the feature of this week's Food Truck Friday.

"It's exciting 'cuz it's something new and it's something we can bring to the community of San Angelo," owner Carlos Rodriguez said. "A coffee shop that comes to you."

Rodriguez is also the owner of Kona Ice, which remains open from February through November but shuts down in the winter months.

By purchasing the sister company coffee truck, he is now able to serve the community year-round.

The business owner ordered the truck back in summer, allowing time for his employees to experience barista training, "And so at the end of it all, I was able to drive this truck back from Kentucky," he said.

On Dec. 2, Travelin' Tom's made its official public debut at Paintbrush Alley Market Days and since then, it has been seen at the Walmart Supercenter, The Pit BBQ and other Concho Valley locations serving up everything from a classic iced latte to a dirty iced chai.

"Coffee is customizable so most folks like their coffee a specific way so it is a learning process for all of us," Rodriguez said.

Popular menu items include the Americano (black coffee) and flavored lattes (with options like caramel and French vanilla) for coffee drinkers, with cinnamon apple cider, iced tea and the Tilt nitro energy drink for non-coffee alternatives.

For Rodriguez, it has been an adjustment learning to make coffee when compared to shaved ice, but he is excited to learn every step of the process.

"It's encouraging to get all these folks calling us interested in our truck," he said.

Typically, community members, businesses, etc. can call the truck and schedule it to park outside a specific location, whether it be for an office party, birthday event or just a typical day.

Now, instead of waiting in a long line for a coffee, the caffeine can come to you.
