SAN ANGELO, Texas — With less than a month before the San Angelo Rodeo begins, limited seats are available.
According to San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Association Executive Director Justin Jonas, lots of ticket sales came through the Rodeo's season ticket plans. By the time tickets went on sale Monday, he said, there were roughly 600 tickets available per event.
With buyers from in and outside of San Angelo waiting at the box office and on the internet for tickets, there was not enough of a supply to meet the heavy demand, Jonas said.
"If you have 13 performances or 12-13 performances and you’ve got 60-65,000 total tickets and the majority of those are already sold, and you’ve got 88,000 people, it’s gonna be whoever clicks it first is the one that’s gonna get the ticket," he said.
Jonas said until something changes, the heavy demand is going to be a persistent issue. Monday, buyers wrapped themselves in blankets outside the box office before sunrise as temperatures dipped into the forties.
The Rodeo is expected to bring a significant economic boost to the city. It is also consistently ranked as one of the best in the state of Texas. San Angelo's Chamber of Commerce estimated that the Rodeo - when combined with February's Stock Show - would bring the city roughly $80 million.
The Rodeo begins Friday, Apr. 5, and the Midway carnival will open the same day. This year's event will feature a Tejano Night on Apr. 21. Jonas said limited tickets could become available if credit card transactions fail.
